Tread in the footsteps of the wartime residents. During the tour you will learn about air raids, the escapees, subterfuge, spying, acts of defiance, and learn about the long-awaited joy of Liberation.
During this walk we reveal just how ordinary islanders endured some of the most extraordinary pressures right here in the heart of their beloved capital town.

Incarceration, Fortifications and Escapes!

Hear the remarkable accounts of islanders who risked everything in small boats, battling danger, distance, and the odds to escape.

This tour offers a compelling journey through Guernsey’s past, set against stunning coastal scenery.

The Road to Freedom
I first ran this tour in 2025, along with my friend and fellow guide Jo May, as part of the celebrations for Liberation 80.
Starting from the Liberation Monument in St Peter Port a guided historical tour of Guernsey’s liberation from German occupation in 1945, outlining key locations, events, and notable figures involved in the surrender and liberation process.
It covers the arrival of Allied forces, the formal surrender of German commanders, celebrations in St Peter Port, the raising of the Union Jack, wartime stories connected to local landmarks, and the later lives of several military figures. Highlighting significant moments, local personalities, and historical anecdotes from the end of the occupation and the restoration of civil authority.
